A taxi firm is offering Londoners half-price taxis on Election Day to make it easier to get out and vote.
Launched in the capital in March, mytaxi, formerly Hailo, is giving 50 per cent off all journeys on Thursday, June 8
According to the company, the move comes as part of its ongoing campaign to “get London moving freely” and is a bid to boost voter turnout in areas where it is tough for some voters to get to their local polling station.
Uber is also offering free taxis to wheelchair users throughout the day.
Andy Jones, general manager at mytaxi, said: “In 2015, 34 per cent of eligible voters didn’t vote and it’s well documented that in general elections the non-voters always have the power to swing the result.
“Everyone’s vote counts and we believe that no one should be prevented from getting out to vote due to transport issues or busy London lifestyles.”
The discount applies to metered taxi fares that start and end in London. It only applies to taxis ordered on the mytaxi app between 7am and 10pm on Election Day.
