A Brixton man has been charged with his mother's murder.

Police and paramedics were called to an address on Strathleven Road at 8.10am on November 2.

They found 64-year-old Christie Eugene who was badly injured.

She was taken to hospital in a critical condition, but Christie succumbed to her injuries at a south London hospital later that day at 10.05pm.

Her family has been informed.

Jason Phinn, 35, of Strathleven Road - Eugene's son, was arrested at the scene and taken to custody.

On November 4, he was presented at Croydon Magistrates' Court and held in custody.

He now awaits a November 7 trial at the Old Bailey.

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “A man has been charged with murdering his mother in Lambeth.

“Police were called at 08:10hrs on Thursday, 2 November to reports of an injured woman at a residential address on Strathleven Road in Brixton.

“Officers and London Ambulance Service (LAS) attended. At the scene, Christie Eugene, aged 64, was found injured.

“She was taken by LAS to a south London hospital in a critical condition.

“Despite the efforts of medical staff she died at 22:05hrs. Her family has been informed.

“Her son, Jason Phinn 35 (02.10.88) of Strathleven Road, was arrested at the scene and taken into custody.

“He appeared at Croydon Magistrates' Court on Saturday, 4 November and was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on 7 November.”
