Which areas of the U.K. have the highest number of independent schools

They found that there are 2,421 independent schools in England, compared with 11,392 Local Authority managed schools and 10,640 Academy schools across the country. This meant that independent schools make up roughly 9.9% of the 24,453 schools across England. The data showed however that some areas had a much higher concentration of these schools than others.

In the London area, Kensington and Chelsea had the most students enrolled in independent schools with 11,055, followed by Richmond Upon Thames with 10,523 and Hackney with 10,169.

Barnet had the highest number of private schools in London, with 37, while Westminster and Camden tied for second place with 33 schools each.

The City of London was the only area within England which had more students in private school than those in academies or state schools.

Nationally, Surrey had the most independent schools overall, with 109 in the area serving 41,224 students. Although second place Kent had only 16 less independent schools, it had less than half the students with 19,450.

 

When they examined the numbers of students in private education, Surrey held on to its top spot, while Kent was pushed to third place by Hertfordshire with 24,085 students. This meant that Surrey was still far ahead of any other area in England with 17 thousand more students than second place.

The only area in the country to have more students in a private school setting, than in LA maintained or academy schools was the City of London, which has 5 independent schools with 2,741 students registered in total, but just 1 local authority school with 244 students.
 

Not all areas have schools that follow an independent model however, with Thurrock, South Tyneside and the Isles of Scilly having no private schools registered within the data.
