Hercules athletes took home a haul of medals at the Surrey County AA Track & Field Championships.
The event, held at the Weir Archer Athletics & Fitness Centre, saw three Hercules athletes crowned county champions.
Maia Heward-Mills grabbed gold in the Under-17 women’s 100m, narrowly beating Shivelle Marshall of Croydon Harriers by just 0.01 seconds.
Freia Harper-Tee clinched her own county title in a thrilling finish in the Under-15 girls 1500m, completing the race in 4:48.70, a four-second personal best.
James Fraser also shined, securing silver in the Under-15 boys 1500m, completing the race in 4:28.93, with Max Harrison taking fifth place in the same race.
Daniel Fiztsimmons continued the 1500m success, running 4:50.25 to win Under-13 boys silver, while Tommaso Crosara earned a county honour in the Under-15 boys 300m, finishing in 36.23 seconds.
Mabel-Rose Scales took one of the first medals of the weekend, winning silver in the Under-20 women's high jump with a jump of 1.70m.
Angel Gutierrez-Bailey ran 26.75 seconds in the Under-13 200m, finishing a close second, while Kyra Stone matched his position in the senior women’s, running 25.69 seconds despite being one of the youngest in the field.
Adam Ofeimun continued the silver streak in the Under-20 men’s 200m, running 21.60 seconds to finish just 0.08 seconds outside gold.
Under-17 James O’Flynn was a very unfortunate fourth in the 200m, missing bronze by just four-hundredths of a second with a wind-assisted time of 22.85 seconds.
However, he made a comeback a day later, taking bronze in the 100m in a speedy 10.96 seconds.
Matthew Wehrle finished third in the Under-20 men’s 400m.
Only 0.06 seconds separated the entire podium, with Wehrle running a personal best of almost a second, despite being the youngest athlete in the field.
In the Under-15 girls 300m, Freya Mcandie secured an impressive bronze in 42.74 seconds, earning herself a new personal best in the process.
In the longer events, Lara Delport was third in the Under-20 Women’s 800m, running 2:26.23, while Rafael Garcia Davis was a comfortable second in the Under-13 boys edition, running 2:21.41.
In the throws, Sonya Atherton achieved a new personal best of 7.30m in the Under-13s shot put, earning a bronze medal.
Ryan Rong An Yap jumped further than ever before in the Under-20 long jump, taking bronze with a leap of 6.18m.
In the senior women’s, Florence Conerney was fourth with a 4.32m leap, while Charlotte Gurney also finished fourth in the Under-20 equivalent with a 4.24m jump.
Mark Andrews competed in a large number of events, earning senior men’s bronze in the shot put (9.08m) and fourth places in the long jump (4.79m) and discus throw (31.81m).
In another event, Hercules cross-country captain James Stockings competed in the Copenhagen Marathon.
He moved up to 31st on the Hercules all-time rankings, clocking 2:26:01 for 30th place, running a smart race to finish in splits of 72:50 and 73:11 for each half.
The Surrey County AA Track & Field Championships was held over two days, welcoming athletes from all over the county to compete in a variety of events.
